One of God’s warriors has gone home

One of God’s warriors has gone home.  Bro. Kenneth Raymond Brady, who did a great job as our BMAO missions director for a number of years has gone home.  I know that he’s rejoicing, but please continue to remember his family in prayer.

Bro. Nathan is getting more excited about coming to Oklahoma City.  Please continue to remember to pray for him and Lynzie as they continue to prepare for the job that God has given them.  Nathan is available to visit with churches and associations to share his calling to plant a church in Oklahoma City.  He is gathering a team to help plant this new church.  Please continue to be in prayer and if you live in the OKC area and feel led to help with this, please let him or me know.

Our Missionary Advisory Committee has been working hard to make recommendations on setting up guidelines for new missionaries.  They are due a big thank you for their hard work.  We’re trying to lay groundwork so that when we have new missionaries come on, everyone knows what to do.  Yes, I know that we’re just getting a new mission work started, but I’m already asking God to start preparing a new missionary and the field where he is to work!  I’m convinced that God is not through in Oklahoma!

Pastors Needed

Photo by igzz/iStock / Getty Images

Bro. Barry McLead is having to resign due to his health.  We appreciate all that he has done to share Jesus in our behalf!  He has ministered to truckers for many years and done a good work.

The Morning Star Association in north east Oklahoma is looking for pastors, they have six churches that are in need of pastors.  Please remember them in prayer and ask for God to provide the pastors that they need.

God is still working in Oklahoma.  He is working in His great way to provide for our needs and to help start new churches in our work.  Don’t forget to thank Him and continue to ask for Him to direct us.

"Missionary" is our Middle Name

Photo by B-C-Designs/iStock / Getty Images

Several folks have indicated an interest in working as a BMAO missionary.  So far no applications have been turned in, so we’re still waiting and praying for God to bring the right person to the right place to work with us and God to plant new churches.  Please keep on praying!  God is not through with Oklahoma!

I had the privilege to attend the national meeting this year.  Bro. Steve Crawley, Executive Director of Lifeword reminded us that as BMA folks, missionary is our middle name!  I like that, let us never forget that we are folks carrying the Gospel forth to a lost and dying world!

God isn’t through with Oklahoma yet!

We are still in need of prayer for laborers to go into the harvest. In addition to “pray for Oklahoma”, I want to start using a new slogan, “God’s not through with Oklahoma yet!”  Because He isn’t, we don’t need to give up either!   We need to be praying and asking God to send forth Laborers unto the Harvest.  As of 2014 we had 3.878 million souls in Oklahoma.  Judging from the numbers of conservative church attenders, we need to be concerned about most of them!  Help me identify the places that God is moving people to and then pray and ask if God wants you to reach out in some way to make a difference.  Someone from your church might be the one to pastor that mission.  It may be that your pastor might need to do two Sunday services until the new church is strong enough to work on its own.  It may be that God has someone from somewhere else to come and work there, but we need to keep on praying and remembering that God isn’t through with Oklahoma yet because He hasn’t returned yet!

The Field is White

I’ve visited several pastors in each of our local associations in the last few months.  I believe that I can safely say that we all are praying and looking for God to do some great things here in Oklahoma.   Jesus said, “The field is white unto the harvest but the laborers are few. Pray ye the Lord of the Harvest that He will send forth laborers unto the harvest.  We need to remember that He is in charge of bringing the laborers.  Our job is to pray and then be there to support and work with those that God brings to the work.  We’ve got to keep on praying!  I’ve revised our missionary application and I’ve had one already request one.  Be in pray for this young man.  I’ve been told of others that are thinking and praying about helping plant churches in Oklahoma.  Be in prayer that God will bring those who He desires.

I visited with Bro. Doug Brewer last week and he showed me an area of the Oklahoma City Metroplex that is growing at a great rate of speed.  It is an area that we need to pray about.

If you haven’t already looked at our new website, bmao.org, then you need to do so.  Bro. Carl Barnes has done a great job of putting it together.  Several folks have already contacted him with changes that need to be made about times, telephone numbers and the people who hold different offices in their churches.  It’s a great way to get your church name out on the internet.  A lot of those new folks moving to your area, don’t use the telephone book to find your church, they use the internet.  Make sure that they’ve got the right information.

Keep Praying

I know that I keep on saying that we need to pray, but we really do need to pray!  I may just be dreaming, but I’m convinced that we should have a BMA church in every community in Oklahoma!  We’ve got a long ways to go if we’re going to get there!  Zechariah 4:6 tells us “not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts”.  We need to get the Holy Spirit involved if we’re going to reach this dream!  It won’t be accomplished with smart ideas and a lot of money, but rather God has to be working and He does that when we commit ourselves to pray and serve!

New Generations will start meeting on Sunday mornings soon.  Let’s join in prayer for Bro. Steve and New Generations as they seek to take the next step.  He has been and will be calling on churches to help pass out flyers and knock on doors as they prepare for this.  Don’t wait for him to call, call him and ask what your church can do to help!

Bro. Barry is recovering from surgery.  Please continue to remember him in prayer!  He is hoping that the doctor will release him to go back to work in a few weeks.

Please be in prayer for God to help us find the right folks and the right places to start new church plants.  I’m convinced that God has people that he is preparing to help us start new churches.  Let’s pray that God will prepare them and show them where they need to be.

God is at work!

I had the privilege to spend a day with Bro. Steve Puckett in Norman getting to see his heart for Norman.  He shared that half of the population of Norman live in apartments and these contain the people that he has been trying to reach. They are enjoying the new building and looking forward to how God is going to use them in their new location.  They have developed a good discipling program and are using it to teach their new members.

Along with Bro. David Langley, I had the privilege of meeting with Bro. Mark Nickolson and talk about Streetlight Ministries.  He has up to twenty-five people that are meeting in his home in Kellyville and they are stepping up to the next level by looking at renting a place to meet on Sunday mornings.  God is blessing their work.  It’s great to see the possibility of a new church starting from this!

Bro. David Langley shared with me about the new Hispanic group that is meeting in their church.  They liked our church literature and wonder if there was a church that would like to donate their old literature for them to use in Sunday School.  If your church would like to do this, please contact Bro. David.  Thanks.

Please pray that God will help us start more churches in Oklahoma!  Until He comes, we need to be busy about His work!

PS.  Bro. Barry McLead’s report will be included with next month’s report.  He had surgery to remove the rest of His cancer.  He did want to note that there were three people that were saved through your truckstop ministry during the month of December.

Prayers are needed!

Prayers are needed!  We need to be praying for God to send folks to labor in the harvest.  I’m convinced that God is not through in Oklahoma!  We need to pray for God to send church planters to labor in our state.    We also need to ask God to show us where He is working in Oklahoma.  That’s where all of us come in.  keep your eyes open for places that God is preparing to work.  Ideal mission sites are places where we have several families willing to help plant a church in their area.  If you know of some families that would like to be part of a church plant, please let me know.

On another note, please check our new website out!  bmao.orgis the address.  If your church is having an event that you would like others to come to, please share for the bulletin board.  If new members join, share it so the rest of the association can rejoice with you.  If you are a preacher wanting a place to preach, please share your information so that churches can see that you are available.  Pastors, please check and make sure that we have your times and pictures for your church.  Free advertising is always a good thing.

A Note from the Director of Missions

3.875 million people live in Oklahoma as of 2014.  The Baptist Missionary Association exists to reach those people!  Yes, some of them are already born again and in bible believing churches, but according to statistics, the majority of them do not attend church.  Yes, Oklahoma is part of the Bible belt, but the generation that made it so, is passing away.  Judges 2:10 has this to say about how the nation of Israel changed. “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.”  We need to share Jesus with this other generation.

How can we?  We’re just a small association.  Yes, but we serve a great God!  We can’t but He can!

I am honored to have been elected your director of missions. If there is any way that I can help you further God’s work, please let me know. I have already started meeting with various pastors across the state, asking them to look for places that God is at work.  We need to pray that God will cause our hearts to be burdened for the lost, missionaries and new churches! We also need to pray for our existing churches and for those that have not been able to find pastors.  God still has faithful men, let’s pray that they will go where He sends.

Please contact me if I can be of service in any way.
